Holy Trinity Catholic School:

Inspiring faith through a Christian education

By Holy Trinity Staff

Holy Trinity Catholic School in Winsted, founded in 1883, is one of only a handful of Catholic co-educational schools in Minnesota that serves students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Holy Trinity Catholic School has been offering its students the opportunity to learn more about their faith for more than 125 years. The school provides a solid foundation of knowledge and skills and encourages academic excellence. Because of the school’s high academic standards and small class sizes, students’ ACT scores are substantially higher than the national average, and more than 85 percent of graduating seniors pursue higher education.

Holy Trinity is a regional Catholic school, with its campus located in the heart of Winsted. Although many of the school’s students live in Winsted, students from a 40-mile radius attend because of the school’s strong reputation of being academically excellent, faith-filled, and affordable. The school’s mission is “to provide a Catholic, faith-centered, spiritual community which guides and educates children in faith and academics in preparation for the challenges of today’s world.”

The elementary and high school buildings are directly across the street from the church. A new elementary building was completed in 2007 and is connected to the high school. This building fosters a family atmosphere among students and staff, and enables the administration to be good stewards of the school’s resources.

Accredited

A solid, performing school is accredited, and Holy Trinity School has accreditation from the Minnesota Non-public School Accrediting Association (MNSAA). Holy Trinity is also a member of the National Federation of Non-public School State Accrediting Association. All of the teachers, kindergarten through 12, are professionally licensed and have advanced degrees.

Technology

Technology plays a key role in the work of Holy Trinity’s educators. Interactive white boards and a computer-to-student ratio of 1 to 2 give teachers an engaging medium to present curriculum. Generous donations have equipped the school with several of the interactive white boards, while many schools are fortunate to have just one. Holy Trinity students embrace the many opportunities to use technology. Inside the traditional walls are future leaders trained with today’s technology. Parents also enjoy keeping up with grades, assignments, and lunch account balances via the Internet.

Academics

Holy Trinity Catholic High School students are prepared for the next stage in their life by a challenging required schedule of core classes, and a wide selection of elective courses including Spanish, college prep courses, pottery, architectural drawing, photography, physics, and others. The school’s grading scale is rigorous, with “A” 93-100 percent, “B” 86-92 percent, and “C” 78-85 percent. The grading scale is designed to ensure students are academically prepared to succeed in any secondary education they choose.

Activities

Every student is encouraged to join in extracurricular programs, and each student can fully participate in almost any activity they would like-another key advantage of a smaller school. Holy Trinity Catholic School offers girls and boys the opportunity to compete in a number of sports. The school is part of a sports cooperative, offering football, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball, cross country, and track. In addition, the school offers extracurricular activities such as Knowledge Bowl, One-Act Play, Chess Club, economics challenge, and yearbook, as well as many others.

Service

Community service is one of the cornerstones of the school’s culture and of students’ educational experience. In order to graduate from Holy Trinity High School, students must complete volunteer hours for the community. Seventh and eighth graders must complete four hours per year, ninth and 10th graders complete two hours per quarter, and 11th and 12th graders are required to give four hours of their time per quarter in service to the community.

As part of the confirmation sacrament requirement, 11th graders must complete an additional 20 hours. In an average school year, more than 1,000 student service hours are given to the community. The school hosts annual fall and spring service days when students provide raking, painting, and general cleaning for area residents.

Preschool - Holy Trinity Catholic School also offers Tiny Trojans preschool. The preschool program is a wonderful way to introduce pre-kindergartners to school in a safe, Christian-based atmosphere. There two-day and three-day programs available. The school also offers the Holy Trinity Childcare Center, which is open after school, and gives parents who work outside of the home a safe and affordable place for their children to be supervised.

Affordable - Holy Trinity Catholic School is committed to remaining an affordable parochial school. Since the true cost of educating each student is substantially higher then the annual tuition, the school is greatly supported by the parishioners of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Additionally, the school benefits from fundraisers such as the Winstock Country Music Festival, the Higher Ground Christian Music Festival, the Spring Fling Dinner Auction, the student Marathon, and donations from alumni and friends of the school.
